Writing An Explanation Video

Explanation Video Script

The process of writing a script is one of the most important parts of creating an explanation video. Now of course the voice over, illustrations, shooting and editing all come together to create a high-quality explanation video, but it is the script that will capture the attention of your viewers.

The purpose of the video is to communicate your product or idea in the simplest way possible, and the script reflects this. In order to do this, we need to have a complete understanding of how your product works.

We gain this understanding through multiple routes. Usually, we have an initial in-depth call with you to learn what you want from the video. Then we get you to fill in a questionnaire before we begin writing your script. Our questionnaire is so important, particularly if you are a start-up and you don’t yet have a website, as it is our only source of information to write your script from.

In this instance, we only know what you tell us and we need to be able to fully understand your business, product or service to be able to explain it effectively to others. Sometimes clients provide us with a first draft of a script but we still ask for the questionnaire to be filled in  We work with the script you have given us, but it is important for us to have an understanding in order to be able to explain to your target market.

Our scripts are specially formatted from our smart data. We collect and analyse data from all our videos to find out what works and what doesn’t.  We then apply this to our scripts so they are the best they possibly can be.

We make our scripts a collaborative process. Juliet writes our scripts, but she then discusses the script with Marc and Ailsa to ensure it is as good as it can be. We then let the client view the script and invite them to provide feedback and comments on the script to let us know what is missing, or what is surplus to the script, to ensure that the script is exactly what you want it to be. We provide unlimited revisions to the script stage before we move onto illustration as this is the best and easiest time for any changes to be made.

This process has been used on over 1,000 videos at this point, and that is because it works!
