We always push who we are via our website. We are not a huge explainer video company and we see this as a good thing. Although profit is something that needs to be achieved if you are running a business, it’s not what we focus on. We focus on quality, project delivery and communication. The great thing about having these 3 goals within business is that profit then becomes a bi-product which keeps the business running successfully.
Over the past few years I’ve seen lots and lots of explainer video company’s appearing in search engines. Most of them are like us, small businesses which fund young families. Doing what you love to support your family is something that keeps up all very happy. Both Ailsa and I have been doing it for the past 10 years and for the most recent 2.5 years we’ve been supporting more than just two of us. We now support our twin boys and our island lifestyle. It’s something we care about greatly because it’s the sole reason we can live and work where we do. Our drive is something different, well, I think it’s different anyway.
I occasionally poke my head back on oDesk and Elance to see what upcoming competition we may have in the next year, and what I see is hundreds and hundreds of explainer video companies selling their wares. And these explainer video companies are then outsourcing to the real talent. It’s a real shame because a lot of freelancers are finding it harder and harder to find work at a reasonable price because the market has become so over-inflated. It’s hard to watch because we were there once. It’s very different now than it was in 2009 when we started The Cuillin Collective. There was limited competition. I’m not entirely sure we’d have endured it all.
What’s my point? Well, if you want to find an explainer video company to produce the goods then please look around and make sure you know who you are working with. Why are they working? What is their drive? Working with a sales team isn’t going to do much beside drain some extra funds which could be paid directly to a freelancer or an explainer video company like us. Funds that are better spent on the actual video than paid to a middleman.
